Software License Agreement

Effective and last updated October 6, 2026

These terms govern Glassie for macOS. The terms that apply depend on whether you obtained Glassie directly from glassie.app or through the Mac App Store.

By installing, activating, or using Glassie, you agree to this agreement. If you do not agree, do not install or use the software and request any available refund through the store where you purchased it.

1. Parties and editions

Glassie is licensed, not sold, by e-squared (“e-squared,” “we,” or “us”) to the person or organization using it (“you”).

2. License grant for the direct edition

Subject to payment, these terms, and any device limit shown at checkout, e-squared grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, revocable, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable license to install and use the direct edition in object-code form on Macs that you own or control. The current individual purchase permits activation on up to three Macs at one time. You may deactivate one Mac and activate another within that limit.

A business may use the direct edition for its own internal work under the same device limit unless a separate written license says otherwise. The license does not transfer ownership of Glassie or its source code.

3. Restrictions

Except where applicable law expressly permits it despite these terms, you may not:

You may make a reasonable backup copy of a direct-download installer for your own use. Open-source components, if any, remain governed by their respective licenses.

4. Ownership

Glassie, its design, executable code, graphics, documentation, and related intellectual-property rights belong to e-squared and its licensors. Rights not expressly granted here are reserved. “Glassie” and associated branding may not be used to imply endorsement or affiliation without permission.

5. Purchases, activation, and refunds

Polar is the merchant of record for direct purchases and applies its checkout, tax, payment, and refund terms. Apple handles those matters for Mac App Store purchases. Prices and device limits are those displayed by the applicable store when you buy.

The direct edition requires a valid license and may contact Polar to activate, validate, deactivate, process a refund or revocation, and enforce the stated device limit. You are responsible for protecting the license key. If it is exposed, use Polar's customer portal or contact support.

Refund eligibility is determined by the terms and mandatory consumer protections applicable to the store that processed the purchase. A refunded or charged-back direct license may be revoked.

6. Compatibility and permissions

Glassie requires a supported version of macOS, an active built-in display, Screen Recording permission, and a MacBook that exposes a compatible continuous lid-angle sensor. Not every MacBook contains or exposes that interface. The product page and App Store listing describe the compatibility known at the time of publication, but operating-system and firmware changes may affect it.

Screen Recording permission is required because Glassie reads the built-in display to render the effect locally. You can revoke the permission in System Settings, but the primary feature will stop working. A physical display moving toward a closed position can be difficult to view safely; use Glassie normally and do not force or obstruct the hinge.

7. Updates and changes

Direct and Mac App Store editions use separate distribution channels. A direct license does not include a Mac App Store purchase, and an App Store purchase does not issue a Polar key. Updates may add, change, or remove features to address compatibility, security, legal requirements, or product development. We do not promise that every future macOS release or Mac model will remain supported.

Apple supplies updates for the Mac App Store edition. Updates for the direct edition are supplied through Glassie's direct distribution channel. You are responsible for installing updates reasonably necessary for security or compatibility.

8. Privacy

Glassie's processing and service providers are described in the Glassie Privacy Policy. In particular, screen frames are processed locally and are not sent to e-squared. The direct edition sends limited activation information to Polar; the Mac App Store edition does not include the Polar licensing client.

9. Support and maintenance

e-squared, not Apple, is responsible for support and maintenance of Glassie except to the extent required by applicable law. Support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis through [email protected]. These terms do not guarantee a response time, a particular feature, or indefinite support.

10. Warranty

Glassie is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, e-squared disclaims implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, uninterrupted operation, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Glassie will work on unsupported hardware, with every third-party application, or with every future system update.

Nothing in this agreement excludes a warranty, remedy, or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded. For the Mac App Store edition, Apple's Standard EULA controls Apple's refund obligations and the allocation of warranty responsibility.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, e-squared and its licensors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business interruption arising from Glassie. Where liability cannot be excluded, total liability related to Glassie will not exceed the amount you paid for the applicable copy during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law, including to liability that cannot legally be limited.

12. Termination

This license ends automatically if you materially violate these terms. When it ends, you must stop using and delete the direct edition. Provisions concerning ownership, restrictions, disclaimers, liability, and other terms intended to survive will continue. Termination does not remove rights or remedies that arose earlier.

13. Legal compliance

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not listed on a U.S. government restricted-party list, to the extent this representation is required by Apple's terms or applicable export law. You must use Glassie in compliance with applicable local laws.

14. General terms

If part of this agreement is unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the extent necessary, and the remainder will continue. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign the direct license without our written consent; e-squared may assign this agreement as part of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of the product.

This agreement and the policies it incorporates are the complete agreement for the direct edition unless e-squared agrees otherwise in writing. Mandatory law in your place of residence remains applicable. We have not selected a governing law or exclusive forum that overrides non-waivable consumer protections.

15. Changes and contact

We may update these terms for future versions or purchases. Material changes will be posted here with a revised effective date. Changes do not retroactively remove rights already granted for a paid version except where required for law, security, or continued operation.

Questions about these terms or Glassie can be sent to [email protected].
